Qualifications on the 9 week

CASI Level 1 · CASI Level 2 training and exams

PLUS PACKAGE adds Avalanche Skills Training 1, Companion Rescue and Wilderness First Aid. The 13 week Super Instructor Edition stacks CADS, CASI Park Level 1 and PSIC Managing Risk On Snow on top, plus plenty of free riding.

Who it suits

Snowboarders who want the instructor tickets and a proper progression course, without paying for elements they don't need. If you already ride strongly across the whole mountain and qualifications are not the point, look at the All-Mountain Programme instead. Not sure where you sit? Check the riding ability guide.

One Simple Idea.

This is quite frankly one of the most exciting programmes we have put together in six years. A real progression course with a proper instructor pathway in Canada, built so you are not forced into elements you just don't need.

01

Nine Weeks, Both Tickets, Done Properly

CASI Level 1 and Level 2 training and exams in one run, with enough days on each to actually pass rather than scrape. Predictable budget, clean plan, no filler.

02

Upgrades, Only If You Want Them

Stack avalanche training and wilderness first aid on the PLUS version, or go the whole way with the 13 week Super Instructor Edition. If you want to be top of every snow school director's resume pile the following winter, that is the one. Fancy a dual discipline winter? Bolt on CSIA Level 1 Ski, as long as you have some ski experience.

03

Short On Time Or Budget? Break It Down

Take just the Level 1, three or four weeks, or just the Level 2 if you already hold Level 1. And if 13 weeks appeals but more coursework does not, swap the final block for four weeks of free riding the terrain Revelstoke is famous for.

04

The Strongest Gateway To Level 3

This is the strongest route there is into the Level 3 course or the Level 3 Internship the following winter. A real powerhouse training programme, designed to get you as far as we can in one season. Period.

What nine weeks actually buys you

And Yes, It's Revelstoke. Not Exactly Famous For Being Boring.

The tickets are the reason you book. This is the reason people come back. Tallest vertical in Canada, ten and a half metres of snow a year, and three days off a week to go and use it.

The Training Format.

A structured programme of around four training days a week, with recovery time built in on purpose.

01

Four Training Days A Week

Some people have not ridden for a year and arrive with enthusiasm but no leg muscles. We build you up properly rather than smashing you in week one and hoping for the best.

02

Three Days Off, Back To Back

Training runs four days together where possible, which gives you three consecutive days to explore, bolt on something extra, stay in and binge Netflix, or if you are hardcore, go riding. No judgement either way.

03

Exams Timed Properly

Training and exams sit in a sequence that gives you the days you need on each before anyone assesses you. That is the whole point of nine weeks rather than a rushed fortnight.

Choose Your Version.

Six versions, one pathway, plus a free ride extension. Here is exactly what sits inside each one.

Option 1

Level 1 Only, 3 Or 4 Weeks

The first ticket on its own, for people who cannot take nine weeks off. Said plainly: if you want both levels, CORE is cheaper than buying them separately, and the separate dates overlap anyway. Don't need the certificates? We can remove the exams and run it as pure riding progression.

Snowboarder hitting a lip on a day off

The other three days

Nobody Remembers The Exam. They Remember The Tuesday.

Four training days a week leaves three for you. Some people spend them chasing storm days off the Stoke chair, some spend them collecting the certificates below. Most do both, because the bolt-ons run on your days off rather than instead of your training.

The Bolt-Ons.

Three bolt-ons for the 13 week Super Instructor Edition, then what each certificate on this page actually is.

CSIA Level 1 Ski Instructor, 8 days £650
Go dual discipline, the cheapest way there is to double the jobs you can apply for next winter. Training, modules and exams all included. Needs a minimum of 5 clients to run.
Intro to Backcountry Touring, 2 days £350
Touring equipment included. You need AST 1 first, so it is on the PLUS base only.
Heli Ski, 1 day Book direct
Booked direct with Selkirk Tangiers, and we will sort you a WSC discount.
Avalanche Skills Training 1
The entry-level avalanche qualification. How the snowpack works, how to read a bulletin, route choice, and the basics of travelling in avalanche terrain rather than guessing at it. Included on PLUS.
Companion Rescue
Transceiver searching, probing and shovelling under time pressure. The day that turns an avalanche qualification from theory into something your hands actually know. Included on PLUS.
Wilderness First Aid
First aid written for places where an ambulance is not five minutes away. Useful on a resume, more useful on a mountain. Included on PLUS.
CADS, adaptive instruction
Teaching riders with disabilities. A genuinely different skill set, and one that puts you in a much smaller pool of instructors. Included on the Super Instructor Edition.
CASI Park Level 1
Teaching in the terrain park safely: features, progressions and risk. If you want the freestyle lessons at your snow school, this is how you get them. Included on the Super Instructor Edition.
PSIC Managing Risk On Snow
The professional side of the job: duty of care, hazard management and the decisions that keep you and your group out of trouble. Included on the Super Instructor Edition.

Living There.

Nine weeks is long enough that where you sleep and what you eat matter as much as the training plan.

01

A Town, Not A Resort Bubble

You live in Revelstoke itself rather than at the foot of a lift. It is a working mountain town with a historic main street, which means real places to eat and a life outside the course.

02

The House And The Food

Shared accommodation with the rest of the crew for the whole stay, with your own room as an optional add-on. The meal plan is five dinners a week, healthy and hearty. Skip it and you cook, which is cheaper but takes more organising than people expect after a training day.

03

Seven To Ten Minutes To The Hill

The resort shuttle runs daily and frequently, early morning until evening, and takes seven to ten minutes town to hill. No car needed, and no hour on a bus before you have even strapped in.

Straight Answers.

The nine questions we get asked most, answered the way we would answer them on the phone.

How good a snowboarder do I need to be before I start?

Good enough that the course is about teaching you to teach, not teaching you to ride. Level 1 is an entry-level teaching qualification, but it is not a beginner snowboard course, and Level 2 asks noticeably more of your own riding. The honest test is whether you are comfortable and in control on most groomed terrain without thinking about it. If you are not sure, read the riding ability guide and then call us, because we would rather tell you to take the early season Level 1 first than watch you struggle in January.

What happens if I fail an exam?

People do fail, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling. A re-sit is usually possible, but it depends on CASI course availability in the window you are still in Canada, and it costs extra. Nine weeks exists partly to reduce the odds: you get the training days in before anyone assesses you, rather than sitting an exam in week two with fresh legs and old habits.

Do I need a working visa?

No. This is training rather than a work placement, so there is no work permit and no snow school interview to get through. Most visitors need an eTA rather than a visa, which is a short online application. If your plan is to earn money in resort, this is the wrong programme and you want the instructor internship instead.

Can I work in resort while I am out there?

Not on this programme. Without a work permit you cannot take paid work in Canada, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The trade is that you have three days a week free to ride rather than to work a shift, which is the right trade for some people and the wrong one for others.

What will the whole winter actually cost me?

Start with the course price, then add return flights at around £750, travel and medical insurance at around £250 to £600 for a course this length, your food if you skip the meal plan, and any kit you still need to buy. Accommodation, your season pass, the shuttle and airport transfers are already in the price, which is why we say that once the flight is paid for you have essentially bought the winter.

How fit do I need to be?

Fitter than you think, but not an athlete. Plenty of people arrive having not ridden for a year, with enthusiasm and no leg strength. Four training days a week with three days off is designed around that, and we build you up rather than smashing you in week one. Any pre-season work you do on legs and general endurance pays you back in the first fortnight.

Is the meal plan worth it?

If you genuinely enjoy cooking and shopping, you can feed yourself for less. What the plan actually buys is five dinners a week you do not have to think about after a full day of training, and eating properly rather than living on pasta. Both versions work, so pick the one that matches how you actually behave when you are tired.

Why nine weeks when other courses do it in a fortnight?

Because a fortnight gets you an exam, and nine weeks gets you the riding to pass it. CORE gives you 8 days of Level 1 training and 18 of Level 2, with the exams sequenced after the training rather than on top of it. If you only need the Level 1 and time is genuinely the constraint, the three or four week version is the honest answer and it is on this page.

Should I be doing this or the All-Mountain Programme?

If you want the instructor tickets, this one. If you already ride strongly across the whole mountain and qualifications are not the point, the All-Mountain Programme is the better use of your money and we will say so on the phone. The two courses are not competing for the same person, whatever the prices suggest.

Hold Your Place, Then Ask Us Everything.

Places go on the nine week CORE first, because it is the one most people want. Holding a place does not commit you to a version, so you can decide between CORE, PLUS and the Super Instructor Edition after we have talked it through.
