Nendaz Ski Instructor Internship In The Swiss Alps

Our Nendaz ski instructor internship is a full winter in the heart of the 4 Vallées. Train for an internationally recognised Level 1 and 2 with Level 4 and Swiss federal coaches, get paid to teach in their ski school, and live in a ski-in, ski-out apartment.

Why Nendaz

Big Mountain, Small Village.

Nendaz sits on a sunny plateau above the Rhône valley, right in the middle of the 4 Vallées. It's relaxed and friendly, and the gondola from the village takes you into one of the biggest ski areas in Europe. You spend the whole winter here, training, teaching and living by the lifts.

01The mountain

One Village, In The Middle Of 410km.

Nendaz sits at about 1,400m on a sunny plateau above the Rhône valley, 15km from Sion. It's in the middle of the 4 Vallées, the largest linked ski area in Switzerland. Verbier is one way, Veysonnaz and Thyon the other, and Mont Fort, at 3,330m, is straight up from Siviez.

For a trainee instructor, that's the point. You teach on the gentle, sunny slopes at Tracouet, and you train on everything else: wide reds, bumps, steeps and the ungroomed run from Mont Fort down to Tortin.

The area

Tracouet And The Village.

The sunny side above Haute-Nendaz. The gondola from the village takes you up to Tracouet, with its frozen lake and wide, easy slopes.

For you

Where you'll teach, and where your first days on snow happen.

Best for teaching practice. Gentle, sunny slopes with room for a class, and another beginner area down in the village.

Key figures

Nendaz

Beginner areas
2In the village and at Tracouet

Terrain

Beginner to intermediate.

Blues around Tracouet and the lake, gentle runs like Prarion and Jean-Pierre, and the runs back down to the village.

Good to know

It's sunny, it's close to home, and early in the season, when only a few lifts are open, this is where training starts.

The runs back down to the village are steeper than the slopes up top, so beginners often take the gondola down.

Lifts: The gondola from Haute-Nendaz up to Tracouet, and the beginner lifts in the village and at the top.

The area

Plan Du Fou.

The high ground between Tracouet and Siviez, topping out at Plan du Fou, 2,430m.

For you

Where your own skiing gets pushed, between lessons.

Best for mileage and technical training, on runs with more pitch than Tracouet.

Key figures

1,730mWhere it links to the rest

Terrain

Intermediate to advanced.

Reds and blues on the way to Siviez, and steeper ground off the top. Nendaz has run its own freeride competition every winter since 2007.

Good to know

More pitch and more variety than the beginner slopes, without going far from home.

It's higher and more open than Tracouet, so check the lifts before you head over on a stormy day.

Lifts: Linked to Tracouet and down to Siviez. Use the resort's own piste map for the current lifts.

The area

Siviez.

The crossroads in the middle of the 4 Vallées. From Siviez, lifts head towards Verbier one way, Veysonnaz and Thyon the other, and up to Tortin and Mont Fort.

For you

Where your days off start, whichever way you're going.

Best for exploring. One pass, and the whole of the 4 Vallées from here.

Terrain

All levels.

Wide runs into the bottom of the hub, and links in every direction.

Good to know

Everything links through here. It's the quickest way from Nendaz to Verbier, Veysonnaz or Mont Fort.

It's a crossroads, so it gets busy at the start and end of the day.

Lifts: Lifts towards Verbier, towards Veysonnaz and Thyon, and the cable car up to Tortin.

The area

Tortin And Mont Fort.

The top of everything. Up from Siviez to Tortin, on to the Col des Gentianes, and Mont Fort at 3,330m.

For you

Where the view is, and one of the best-known runs in the 4 Vallées.

Best on a bluebird day. From the top you can see the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc and the Grand Combin.

Terrain

Advanced to expert.

The glacier at the top, and the run from Mont Fort down to Tortin, left ungroomed because it's too steep to groom.

Good to know

This is where the 4 Vallées tops out, and Nendaz and Verbier share it.

It's the highest and most exposed part of the area, and the top lifts close first in the wind. Treat the Tortin run as off-piste, with the kit and the training to match.

Lifts: The cable car from Siviez to Tortin, on to the Col des Gentianes, and the Mont Fort cable car to the top.

The area

Veysonnaz And Thyon.

The east end of the 4 Vallées, over the ridge from Siviez.

For you

Best for long cruising runs, still on the same pass.

It's a fair way back to Nendaz at the end of the day, so keep an eye on the last lifts.

Lifts: The lifts from Siviez over Greppon Blanc to Veysonnaz, then on to Thyon.

Getting here

Fly into Geneva, about 2 hours away. Sion, the nearest town, is about half an hour down the hill.

Your lift pass

A 4 Vallées season pass is included. If you're over 24, there's a CHF 600 supplement.

Worth knowing

Prices are in Swiss francs, and a lunch or a drink on the hill costs more than at home. Cooking for yourselves in the apartment is the way to keep it under control.

The Pros And Cons.
